Grace Period - Prepaid Visa

A "grace period" for a visa is a specified amount of time granted by Dubai Immigration during which a visa holder is allowed to stay in Dubai after the visa's expiration date without being penalized or facing any legal consequences. The grace period allows travellers to prepare for their departure and make necessary arrangements to either extend their stay in Dubai or leave before they are considered to be overstaying their visas.

The duration of the grace period varies depending on the type of visa issued. Some visas may not have a grace period at all, while others may have a grace period of a few days. It is important to note that while a grace period can provide some leniency for visa holders, it is still considered unlawful to stay in the country beyond the permitted period of stay, and doing so could result in serious consequences, such as hefty fines. No grace period is given for any prepaid visa holder.

Recent Changes in Dubai Visa Rules

Many changes have been made due to the introduction of an advanced visa system in October 2022 by the UAE government.

1. 60 Days Visa Continued

The ICP introduced the 60-day visit visa on October 3, 2022, with the implementation of the new changes. Tourists are permitted to stay in the United Arab Emirates for up to two months.

2. Overstaying Fine Standardised

Recently, the UAE ICP stated that all overstaying fines would be standardized at 50 AED per day of overstaying. Overstaying fines are charged when the visa holder stays longer than the permitted stay duration or the visa expiration date. Your overstaying fines will start accumulating after your visa expiration date or grace period, depending on the visa type, is over. Please know that if you are unable to leave the country due to airline cancellations or airport closures, you won't be regarded as having overstayed your visa.

3. ICP Fee Increase

The Federal Authority for Identification, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) recently announced an increase in all service fees by AED 100. This increase is imposed by the new regulations on all services provided by the ICP, including the issuance of Emirates IDs, visit visas, and residency visas.

4. Exit Permit when Leaving from Dubai

You must apply for an exit permit to fly out of the UAE if you are leaving through Dubai. The exit permit is only necessary while leaving the UAE through Dubai and is not needed when flying out of the other Emirates. This exit permit will cost you between 200 and 300 AED. You can obtain the Dubai exit permit through :

  • Immigration desk at the airport or land border.
  • Al Awir immigration office.
