Schengen travel insurance

A holder of a Uniform Schengen visa can travel to all 26 member countries of the Schengen (Austria, Hungary, Norway, Belgium, Iceland, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Latvia, Slovakia, Estonia, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Finland, Lithuania, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Sweden, Germany, Malta, Switzerland, Greece & Netherlands)

What is Schengen travel insurance?

A Schengen travel insurance offers medical and travel insurance for all the 26 countries that make up the Schengen area. This is an ideal insurance if you are visiting one or more Schengen countries.

Why do I need travel insurance to visit Europe?

One of the crucial eligibility criteria to apply for a Schengen visa is to have travel insurance that covers up to X in medical costs for all countries in the Schengen zone. Obtaining a Schengen medical and travel insurance from a reputed insurance provider is the easiest way to go. Some country nationals are exempted from having a Schengen visa during travel to Schengen countries. Nationals from countries like Brazil, Canada, Mexico and USA have visa free entry to the Schengen areas. But, it is recommended you have insurance at the time of travel to cover the medical costs that arise due to unexpected circumstances. This is also a great way to ensure you are covered in most European countries if you still haven't finalized your travel itinerary.

Will getting travel insurance ensure I get a Schengen visa ?

Your travel insurance document is mandatory when applying for a Schengen visa. Additionally, you need to submit other documents that outline the reasons for travel, your travel itinerary, accommodation and your plans to work/study. Your application can also get rejected by the Embassy but the chances of this happening are very less if you have submitted all the necessary documents in order.

Does Schengen insurance cover countries other than those in the Schengen Area ?

The Schengen visa insurance only covers the 26 Schengen countries. If you plan to travel to countries outside the Schengen zone, you are advised to apply for an insurance that covers that country.
