Arrive Tashkent

Visit the Hast Imam complex, Chorsu Bazaar and Tashkent City Park.

Tashkent → Khujand

Cross the Oybek border into Tajikistan and explore Khujand’s Temur Malik fortress, park, mosque and bazaar.

Khujand → Istaravshan

See the Arbob Palace, Kok-Gumbaz mosque-madrasah, Mugh citadel and local bazaar.

Istaravshan → Dushanbe

Travel through the Istiklol tunnel to Dushanbe for Rudaki Park and the National Museum.

Dushanbe → Iskanderkul → Saratog

Visit Iskanderkul lake and the Fan Niagara waterfall, then continue to Saratog village.

Walk through forest and gorge to a nomad camp and birch grove.

Saratog → Padrud

Travel along the seven Marguzor lakes in the Shing River valley.

Hike to the seventh lake, visit ancient Panjakent and cross the border into Uzbekistan for Samarkand.

Samarkand

Explore Registan Square, Gur-e-Amir, Shah-i-Zinda, Konigil Meros, Bibi-Khanym Mosque and Siab Bazaar.

Samarkand → Bukhara

Visit Saint Daniel, Ulugbek Observatory and Imam Al-Bukhari before continuing to Bukhara.

Travel through the Kyzylkum desert to Khiva.

  • Best time to travel: late spring to early autumn is most suitable for the high mountain routes, while Uzbekistan is strongest in spring and autumn.
  • Where it starts: the journey begins in Tashkent and crosses into Tajikistan by road.
