Oman Visit Visa from Dubai
An Oman visit visa from Dubai is simpler than most, but there is a twist that catches people out: your route depends on the job printed on the back of your Emirates ID. If your profession is on Oman's approved list, you get a 28-day visa on arrival or eVisa for about OMR 5, around AED 48. If it is not, you need a sponsored visit visa through a travel agency. Emirati and other GCC nationals do not need a visa at all.

Do you need an Oman visa if you live in Dubai?
It comes down to two things: your passport, and the job on your Emirates ID. If you hold an Emirati or other GCC passport, you do not need a visa. If you are a foreign-passport resident, you need one, and the route you take depends on your profession.
| Your situation | What you need | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Emirati or other GCC national | Nothing, visa-free | Free |
| UAE resident, profession on the approved list | Visa on arrival or GCC Resident eVisa | OMR 5, about AED 48 |
| UAE resident, profession not on the list | Sponsored visit visa through a travel agency | Varies |
This guide is for foreign-passport residents of Dubai. For most, Oman is cheap and quick. The part that trips people up is the profession rule, so start there.
The profession rule: the part people miss
Oman decides your cheap-visa eligibility from the occupation shown on the back of your Emirates ID, not from your nationality. The Royal Oman Police publish a list of approved professions. If the job on your Emirates ID is on that list, you can use the OMR 5 visa on arrival or the GCC Resident eVisa. If it is not, those two routes are closed to you, whatever your nationality, and you apply for a sponsored visit visa instead.
This is why two colleagues on the same passport can have completely different experiences at the border. Check the back of your Emirates ID against the current approved list before you book, because the list changes and it is the single thing that decides your route.
The three routes, and which is yours
Visa on arrival
At Muscat airport and the land borders, for approved professions. OMR 5, 28-day stay. Bring your passport, valid six months, and your Emirates ID.
GCC Resident eVisa
Applied for online before you travel, for approved professions. OMR 5, 28-day stay. Approved in about four to five working days.
Sponsored visit visa
For professions not on the list. Arranged through an authorised travel agency, the Oman Embassy, or a family sponsor in Oman.
Routes 1 and 2 are the same visa and the same price, OMR 5. The only difference is whether you sort it before you fly or at the border. If your profession is not approved, Route 3 is your path, and that is the one Arabiers handles.
What the visa lets you do
The visa on arrival and the eVisa both allow a tourist stay of up to 28 days. You can use it to:
- Explore Muscat, the Grand Mosque, the souqs and the coast
- Drive the mountains and wadis, from Jebel Akhdar to Wadi Shab
- Visit Musandam, the fjords near the UAE border, a popular weekend trip
- Travel to Salalah in the green Khareef season
It is a visitor permission, not a work or residence permit. Work and long stays need a different visa arranged inside Oman.
How to apply for the Oman eVisa from Dubai
If your profession is approved, you apply online, with no agency needed.
- Check the job on the back of your Emirates ID against the Royal Oman Police approved-profession list.
- Create an account on the official portal, evisa.rop.gov.om.
- Choose the GCC Resident visa and complete the form.
- Upload your passport, UAE residence visa, Emirates ID and a photo, then pay the OMR 5 fee.
- Wait about four to five working days for approval by email, then print it and carry it with you.
If your profession is not approved, do not pay for the eVisa, because it will not be granted. Use the sponsored route instead.
What documents do you need?
An Oman visa from Dubai comes down to a valid passport, your UAE residence, and the right profession. You will need:
- A current passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date
- Your valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID
- A passport photo for the online form
- For the sponsored route, the documents the agency or sponsor asks for
How much does an Oman visit visa cost from Dubai?
For an approved profession, the visa on arrival or eVisa costs OMR 5, about AED 48. The sponsored route costs more, because it includes the agency or sponsor service, and the amount varies.
| Route | Fee (OMR) | About (AED) | Stay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa on arrival (approved profession) | OMR 5 | AED 48 | 28 days |
| GCC Resident eVisa (approved profession) | OMR 5 | AED 48 | 28 days |
| Sponsored visit visa (other professions) | Varies | Varies | As granted |
AED amounts are approximate, at the pegged rate of about 1 OMR to 9.55 AED. Confirm the current fee on the official portal before you apply.
How long does it take, and how long can you stay?
The eVisa takes about four to five working days, and the stay is up to 28 days. Visa on arrival is issued at the border there and then, so it suits a spur-of-the-moment trip, as long as your profession is approved. The sponsored route takes longer, so allow more time if that is your path.
Entering Oman by road or by air
The rules are the same whether you fly to Muscat or drive across the border. Oman is a popular road trip from the UAE, through the Hatta or Al Wajajah crossings and up to Musandam. Visa on arrival is available at the land borders as well as the airport, for approved professions. If you are driving, carry your passport, Emirates ID, and your vehicle and insurance papers, and check that your car insurance covers Oman.
Can you enter Oman on your Emirates ID?
As a foreign-passport resident, no. Your Emirates ID is not a travel document, so you always need your passport. What the Emirates ID does is prove your UAE residence and show your profession, which is what qualifies you for the OMR 5 visa on arrival. So the honest version is: passport plus Emirates ID, and an approved profession, gets you the cheap visa at the border.
Only Emirati and other GCC nationals can cross on a national ID card. And an Oman visa run, exiting the UAE to the border to reset a UAE entry, is a different thing from visiting Oman, which needs an actual Oman visa.
Oman visit visa from Dubai by nationality
For UAE residents, your profession matters more than your passport. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino and most other foreign-passport residents all follow the same split: the OMR 5 route if the Emirates ID profession is approved, the sponsored route if not. If you are travelling elsewhere too, a UAE residence opens easy entry to several countries, which you can see on our visa guide hub.
When it is simple, and when it is not
If your profession is approved, an Oman visa is simple, and you can do it yourself on the portal or at the border. It is worth getting help when:
- your profession is not on the approved list
- you are travelling as a family or group with mixed professions
- you want the visa sorted before you fly, with no risk at the border
- you are unsure which route applies to you
Frequently asked questions
Do UAE residents need a visa to visit Oman?
It depends. Emirati and other GCC nationals are visa-free. Foreign-passport residents need a visa, and the route depends on the occupation shown on the back of your Emirates ID.
How much is an Oman visit visa from Dubai?
For an approved profession, the 28-day visa on arrival or GCC Resident eVisa costs OMR 5, about AED 48. If your profession is not on the list, you apply through a travel agency and the cost varies.
Can I get an Oman visa on arrival from Dubai?
Yes, at Muscat airport and the land borders, if the occupation on the back of your Emirates ID is on the Royal Oman Police approved list. Bring your passport, valid for six months, and your Emirates ID.
Can I enter Oman with my Emirates ID?
As a foreign-passport resident you still need your passport. Your Emirates ID proves your residence and profession, which qualifies you for the visa on arrival, but it is not a travel document. Only GCC nationals cross on a national ID.
Is Oman visa-free for UAE residents?
Not for foreign-passport residents. GCC nationals are visa-free. For approved professions the cheapest route is the OMR 5 visa on arrival or eVisa.
What if my profession is not on the approved list?
You apply for a sponsored Oman visit visa through an authorised travel agency, the Oman Embassy, or a family member who resides in Oman. The visa on arrival and the unsponsored eVisa are not available to you.
How long does the Oman eVisa take?
About four to five working days. Visa on arrival is issued at the border there and then.
How long can I stay in Oman?
Up to 28 days on the visa on arrival or the GCC Resident eVisa.
Where do I apply for an Oman visa from Dubai?
On the official Royal Oman Police eVisa portal, evisa.rop.gov.om. There is no paper form for the eVisa.
Is an Oman visa run the same as an Oman visit visa?
No. An Oman visa run means exiting the UAE to the Oman border and returning, to reset a UAE entry. Visiting Oman as a tourist needs an actual Oman visa, which is what this guide covers.
