Khasab Half Day Mountain Safari

4WD to the highest point in Musandam. Morning or afternoon from Khasab.

A 4WD leaves Khasab harbour and climbs into the Hajar mountain range via switchback roads carved into the limestone. The route stops at Bait Al Qafl, a dry-stone village that has been occupied for centuries, and at the Khalidiya natural park, a green valley of acacia trees inside the otherwise arid mountain interior. Jebel Harim at 1,784 metres is the high point, with views across the Gulf of Oman. The Khor Najid viewpoint puts the same fjords you may have cruised from the deck level now visible from 1,400 metres above.

The summit view that changes how you see the fjords

The same Khor Sham you cruised this morning, now 1,400 metres below you

The Khor Najid viewpoint is at the top of a ridge from which both the Gulf of Oman and the inner fjords are visible. If you did the morning dhow cruise, you can identify the bay where the dhow anchored. The geometry of the Musandam peninsula is only fully clear from up here: the mountain ridges running into the sea, the fjords between them, the Strait of Hormuz open beyond.

🏔

Jebel Harim, 1,784m

The highest point in Musandam. The peak is inside a military area; the safari stops at the viewpoint just below the summit, at around 1,750 metres.

🏠

Bait Al Qafl village

A dry-stone terraced village built into the mountain face. Some of the buildings are occupied; others have been abandoned. The construction style dates back several centuries.

🌳

Khalidiya natural park

A valley of acacia trees in the middle of the Hajar range. The contrast with the surrounding bare limestone is sharp.

🔭

Khor Najid viewpoint

One of the most clear vantage points over the Musandam fjords. The inlet below is visible for its entire length from the ridge.

When to choose the half day over the full day safari

The half day mountain safari is for guests who want Jebel Harim, the village and the Khor Najid viewpoint without the Wadi Ain trekking section that the full day mountain safari adds. The full day runs for 6 hours and includes a trek through the wadi to a waterfall and a picnic lunch. The half day runs for 4 hours and is entirely 4WD, with short stops on foot at each viewpoint. It is suitable for guests who want the mountain views without a physically demanding walk.

The most common combination is the morning half day dhow cruise and the afternoon mountain safari on the same day. This covers both the fjord from the water and the fjord from the mountain in a single Khasab day.
