Why wholesale hotel rates are hidden from public apps
A wholesale, or net, rate is the price a hotel contracts to the travel trade rather than to the public. Hotels do this to fill rooms through agencies and bed banks without publishing a low price that would undercut their own public rate on the booking apps. The rate exists, but it is released to licensed agencies under international hotel agreements, not shown to a walk-up online shopper.
Because the public apps display the public rate and the wholesale rate is deliberately kept off them, a local travel agency in the UAE with the right agreements can often quote below the app price, particularly on longer stays, suites, family and connecting rooms, resorts and peak dates. On some quiet standard-room nights the gap narrows, so we always check live and show you the two numbers side by side.
The trade-off with wholesale rates is that the terms matter. Some are more restrictive on changes and cancellation.
