Do Taiwanese Citizens Need a Visa for Sri Lanka?

Yes. Taiwanese passport holders need a visa, and they cannot use the standard online ETA, they must apply through a Sri Lankan sponsor at the Department of Immigration & Emigration head office.

Sri Lanka’s official ETA portal places Taiwan (listed as “Taiwan-China”), alongside Kosovo, in a separate category. Instead of self-applying online, a Sri Lankan sponsor submits the application at the Immigration head office in Battaramulla. The department then issues a Landing Endorsement, and the traveller is granted a 30-day Visit Visa (Tourist) at the port of entry in Sri Lanka.

How the Sponsor Route Works for Taiwanese

A Sri Lankan sponsor files at the Immigration head office, a Landing Endorsement is issued, and you receive a 30-day tourist visa at the airport.

The process runs in a clear sequence: your Sri Lankan sponsor submits the application and supporting documents at the Department of Immigration & Emigration head office; the department issues a Landing Endorsement, valid for 30 days from its date of issue; you travel to Sri Lanka and are granted a 30-day Visit Visa (Tourist) at the port of entry; and you then attend the Visa Division at the head office within 30 days of arrival to regularise the visa, as stated on the endorsement. A confirmed return or onward ticket is required.

Visa Fees from Taiwan to Sri Lanka

Taiwan is not on Sri Lanka’s free-ETA list, so a fee applies under the sponsor route.

Because the application is handled through a sponsor at the Immigration head office rather than the online portal, fees are confirmed at the time of application. Arabiers confirms the exact amount with you before any payment.

Documents Taiwanese Travellers Need

The sponsor route needs sponsor paperwork plus a few applicant documents — but no police clearance for Taiwan.

Per the Immigration head-office requirements for Taiwan (Alert 03), the following are submitted by the Sri Lankan sponsor:

  • Request letter from the Sri Lankan sponsor.
  • Affidavit from the Sri Lankan sponsor, signed before a Justice of the Peace or a lawyer.
  • Certified copy of the Sri Lankan sponsor’s national identity card or passport.
  • Applicant’s passport photocopy (valid at least 6 months).
  • Proof of accommodation in Sri Lanka.
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket.

The sponsor paperwork is the real hurdle. A Taiwanese traveller has no easy way to obtain a Sri Lankan sponsor’s request letter, affidavit and certified ID. Arabiers, as a registered Sri Lankan entity, provides the sponsor, which is what makes this visa achievable for you.
