Before October 2024, tourist and visit visa holders in the UAE had a short buffer after the printed expiry date. That buffer no longer exists. The rule change applied to all tourist and visit visa categories simultaneously.
The printed expiry date on the visa is now the hard deadline. The AED 50 per day fine starts the morning after that date regardless of the time of day the visa expired, regardless of whether it is a weekend or a public holiday, and regardless of how long the person has been in the country.

When any UAE residence visa is cancelled, a 30-day grace period applies. This grace period was not affected by the October 2024 tourist visa rule change it is a separate provision specific to former residents.
The 30-day grace period applies across all residence categories without distinction. Employment visa, family visa, dependent visa, investor visa the duration is the same for all. The person does not need to apply for the grace period or request it. It applies automatically from the ICP system cancellation date.

The single most common error among former UAE residents is estimating the grace period start date incorrectly. The grace period starts on the date the cancellation is recorded in the ICP immigration system. That date is frequently earlier than the date the person expects.

We handle cancelled-residence status changes every week. The most common problem is a former resident who contacts us on day 28 believing they have two more days, when the ICP system shows the grace period started two days before they thought. Two minutes on the ICP portal on the day of cancellation confirmation prevents this entirely. Check the system date first, then plan from that date.

If a former resident has not acted before the 30-day grace period ends, the AED 50 per day overstay fine begins from day 31. The situation is not irreversible it follows the same resolution process as any UAE overstay.
