Almost every desert safari sold in Abu Dhabi ends at a shared camp with a buffet and a show. That is the standard product and it is good value, but it is not what a high-end traveller means by luxury. The premium range separates into four tiers, and the first question to answer is which one you want.
| Tier | What changes | Shared guests? | Abu Dhabi examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Premium camp | Private 4x4 transfer, table service instead of a buffet, smaller groups, a better camp (Arabian Nights Village) | Yes, at the venue | Premium Evening 4x4 Tour, Bonfire Tales, Premium Overnight Stay, Sunrise with Breakfast |
| 2. Private vehicle | Your own Land Cruiser, driver and dune drive; optional Polaris buggy; no camp entertainment | No | Private Morning, Evening and Overnight buggy tours |
| 3. Private dinner | Everything in tier 2 plus a private dining set-up on open dunes with live BBQ, torches, cushions and bonfire | No | Private Desert Dinner in Style, Private Dinner with Buggy Ride |
| 4. Made to order and resort | Private camp with Arabic tents, private chef and butler, luxury transfers, or a full day ending at Qasr Al Sarab | No | Private camp built to order; BBQ Dinner at Qasr Al Sarab Liwa Day Tour |

This is the private evening most high-end guests end up booking, and the one to compare everything else against. From the moment a private, roller-protected Land Cruiser collects you at your hotel lobby (between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.) you are with your own driver-guide and no one else. The afternoon runs through a dune drive at whatever intensity you ask for, a camel farm visit, and then a walk or sandboarding while the sun drops. Dinner is a private live BBQ laid on open dunes near the base camp, not inside it, with Arabic coffee and dates on arrival, water, soft drinks and tea, fire torches, low tables and cushions, and a bonfire on cool evenings. The base camp is used for washroom facilities only. Drop-off is between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
Both include the private Land Cruiser, driver-guide, camp assistants, insurance, camel farm, sandboarding, sunset, desert walk and private live BBQ dinner.
Excluded: alcohol, quad or buggy ride (available on request), camel riding and stage shows. If you want an hour on a camel, add the hour-long camel ride into the inner desert. Vegetarian and dietary menus are prepared on request. See the Desert Dinner in Style inclusions and menu.

These four tours are for guests who want the driving to be the point, without a camp and without strangers. Each is a private 4x4 with your own driver, a Polaris buggy session on the Al Khatim dunes, return transfer from Abu Dhabi, and a minimum of two guests.
About 5 hours, morning. AED 550.
Cool air, empty dunes and the best light for driving. The morning is the least crowded time in Al Khatim and the buggy session runs before the sand heats up. Morning buggy tour itinerary and rates.
About 6 hours, evening. AED 625.
The same private format timed for sunset, with the buggy session as the sun goes down. No dinner is included, which suits guests who would rather eat back at their hotel. Sunset Polaris session with a private 4x4.
Evening. AED 1,025.
Open dune dinner at your own table with a bonfire, preceded by a Polaris buggy run. The mid-point between the private evening tour and the Desert Dinner in Style: simpler set-up, more driving. Dune dinner with a buggy run, AED 1,025.
About 18 hours, overnight. AED 690.
Open dunes, no base camp, a buggy session, dinner, a night under the stars and sunrise on the dunes. This is the closest thing to a private expedition without driving to Liwa, and the option for guests who want a night out of signal range rather than at a resort. Overnight nature camping on open dunes.
The premium camp tier keeps a private 4x4 transfer and moves the meal from a buffet to table service at Arabian Nights Village, the best-appointed desert camp near Abu Dhabi. You share the venue with other premium guests, but not a queue. These are the right choice for guests who want the comfort without paying for a fully private set-up, and they are the only tier with a proper overnight bed.

Al Khatim is 50 minutes from the city and the right choice for an evening. When a guest asks for the most memorable desert experience with no budget ceiling, the answer moves 240 km south-west to Liwa and the Empty Quarter, where the dunes reach 300 metres and the only hotel is Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara. The Qasr Al Sarab dinner day tour from Abu Dhabi (BBQ Dinner at Qasr Al Sarab Liwa Day Tour, AED 2,990 per vehicle) is a full private day: a Land Cruiser with an Emirati driver holding Empty Quarter permits, Moreeb Dune, a camel farm, and a private dinner at the resort with a personal chef and butler. Guests can return to Abu Dhabi that night or stay at the resort. The full range is on the Liwa desert safari tours page.

Everything above is a listed product with a fixed price. Beyond it, Arabiers builds private desert set-ups to order, and has done so for VVIP guests. What can be arranged:
To quote a private camp we need the date, the number of guests, the occasion, morning, evening or overnight, whether dune bashing is wanted, and any menu or beverage requirements. A full private camp needs about seven days' notice; additions to a listed private dinner (cake, flowers, decoration) can usually be arranged within 48 hours.
"Not touristy" usually means three things: no coach party, no stage show, and something that feels connected to how the desert was actually lived in. The listed tours that meet all three are the Bedouin Desert Breakfast Experience (a dawn meal in the quiet desert), the Bonfire Tales evening (Emirati storytelling around a fire in winter), the Premium Camel Trekking (nearly an hour on camel from an inner desert point, which is how you would have arrived at the village), and any private Liwa tour, where the guides grew up in Al Dhafra and the Empty Quarter is the ancestral home of the ruling family. The Private Desert Dinner in Style with the Majlis set-up is the evening version: floor seating, Arabic coffee and dates on arrival, live BBQ and a bonfire, with nothing performed.
Most desert safari operators in Abu Dhabi sell shared evening tours and add a "VIP" label to a better seat at the same camp. Arabiers Travel and Tourism LLC (Licence No. 1176592) runs private and premium desert products as a core line, with its own desert ground operations team in Abu Dhabi and Liwa, private roller-protected Land Cruisers, Polaris buggies, private dune dinner set-ups and the Qasr Al Sarab dining programme. The full Abu Dhabi desert safari range, from shared to private, is on one page so that the difference between tiers is visible before you book. For venue-based luxury, the properties Arabiers works with are Arabian Nights Village and Telal Resort near Al Khatim, and Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara in Liwa.
The word private is used loosely in Abu Dhabi. Before paying for any tour sold as private, luxury or VIP, ask the operator these six questions. The answers separate a genuinely private evening from a shared tour with a better seat.
Tell us the date, the occasion and the number of guests. The Abu Dhabi team replies with a firm proposal, and private bookings are confirmed on payment.
The strongest options are the Private Desert Dinner in Style (a private Land Cruiser, camel farm, sunset and a private live BBQ dinner in a Majlis or romantic set-up on the dunes, from AED 1,690 per couple), the private buggy tours with your own 4x4 and a Polaris session, the Premium Overnight Stay with table service and sunrise on the dunes, and, for the top of the range, the BBQ Dinner at Qasr Al Sarab in Liwa with a private chef and butler at AED 2,990 per vehicle.
The Private Desert Dinner Abu Dhabi in Style. It is fully private from pick-up to drop-off: your own roller-protected Land Cruiser, your own driver-guide, your own dune drive, and a dinner set-up placed on open dunes near the base camp with no other guests. Choose the Desert Romantic Sunset set-up at AED 1,690 per couple or the UAE Majlis set-up at AED 2,190 per couple.
For one evening near the city, the Private Desert Dinner in Style with the Majlis set-up, upgraded with a luxury pick-up vehicle, a personalised menu and a cake or flowers on request. For a full day with no budget ceiling, the BBQ Dinner at Qasr Al Sarab Liwa Day Tour, which combines a private Empty Quarter expedition with a private chef and butler dinner at the region's only luxury dune resort.
Choose a tour that never enters a shared camp. The Private Desert Dinner in Style dines on open dunes; the Private Overnight Nature Camping tour sleeps under the stars with no base camp; the Private Morning and Evening buggy tours are your own 4x4 and your own driver. None of them involves a buffet queue, a stage show or a coach party. For the least touristy option of all, take a private Liwa tour into the Empty Quarter.
Yes. The Private Desert Dinner Abu Dhabi in Style includes a private roller-protected Land Cruiser with an expert dune driver, camp assistants, an Arabian hospitality set-up with fire torches, low tables, cushions and a bonfire, and a private live BBQ dinner with Arabic coffee, dates, water, soft drinks and tea. Pick-up is from any hotel or residence lobby in Abu Dhabi city.
Arabiers Travel and Tourism LLC (Licence 1176592) runs private and premium desert products in Abu Dhabi and Liwa as a core line rather than an add-on, with its own desert ground operations team, private Land Cruisers, private dune dinner set-ups, buggy sessions and Qasr Al Sarab dining. For venue-based luxury, Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, Arabian Nights Village and Telal Resort are the premium desert properties Arabiers works with.
The Private Desert Dinner in Style, collected from your hotel lobby between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. and returned by 9:30 p.m. Al Khatim is about 50 minutes from the island hotels, so the whole evening fits between a late lunch and a nightcap. Guests at Emirates Palace, Mandarin Oriental, the St Regis, Rosewood, Four Seasons, Conrad or the Saadiyat resorts are collected directly from the porte cochere.
Yes. Book the Private Desert Dinner in Style or a private Liwa tour and ask for the discreet service arrangement: a luxury van or SUV pick-up, one named driver-guide for the whole evening, a dune location away from any camp, no photography by staff, and a single point of contact who holds the booking under an alias if required. Arabiers has arranged this for VVIP guests previously, including Mercedes V-Class transfers, live cooking stations and butler service.
The Private Desert Dinner in Style with the Desert Romantic Sunset set-up, AED 1,690 per couple. Dinner is laid on open dunes near the base camp rather than inside it; the camp is used only for washroom facilities. The Private Dinner in the Desert with Buggy Ride at AED 1,025 is the alternative if you want a Polaris buggy run before the meal.
Yes, as a bespoke booking. Standard private dinners use an open dune set-up; for a full private camp Arabiers adds Arabic majlis tents, carpets and lanterns, a live cooking station or private chef, butler or waiter service, a personalised menu, a cake, flowers, decoration and entertainment on request. Give at least seven days' notice for a full private camp and share the group size, date and dietary needs.
The Bedouin Desert Breakfast Experience, the Abu Dhabi Bonfire Tales premium evening tour, the Premium Camel Trekking from an inner desert point to Arabian Nights Village, and any private Liwa tour with an Emirati guide from Al Dhafra. Each replaces the show format with something closer to how the desert was actually lived in: a dawn meal, a story around a fire, an hour on a camel, or a day in the Empty Quarter with someone who grew up there.
A private Land Cruiser tour, because the driver sets the dune intensity for the youngest guest and the family is never mixed with strangers. For an afternoon, the Private Evening Desert Tour with Buggy Ride (AED 625) with the buggy session for adults and older teenagers. For a full evening, the Private Desert Dinner in Style with the Majlis set-up, which seats a family comfortably. For two days, the Premium Overnight Stay with table service and sunrise.
The Private Desert Dinner in Style is built for this: the set-up is private, the timing lands on sunset, and a cake with a personal message, flowers, decoration, a photographer and a musician can all be added. For a proposal or milestone anniversary, the same dinner with the Majlis set-up, or the BBQ Dinner at Qasr Al Sarab for the most memorable version.
Private buggy tours: full vehicle privacy, driver-guide service, Land Cruiser plus Polaris, no meal on the morning and evening versions. Private Desert Dinner in Style: full privacy, camp assistants and driver, Land Cruiser, private live BBQ on the dunes, the most exclusive near-city option. Premium camp tours: private vehicle, table service at a premium camp, shared venue, good dining, moderate exclusivity. Qasr Al Sarab BBQ Dinner: full privacy, private chef and butler, Land Cruiser, resort dining, the most exclusive overall.
A two-day arrangement: the BBQ Dinner at Qasr Al Sarab Liwa Day Tour on day one, with a private Empty Quarter expedition, Moreeb Dune and a private chef and butler dinner at the resort, followed by an overnight stay at Qasr Al Sarab and a Liwa Sunset Champagne drive on day two. Arabiers arranges the resort booking, luxury transfers and every set-up as one itinerary.
