Lost Passport in Dubai on Visitor Visa (2026): What to Do A lost passport in Dubai requires a police report first, then a visit to your embassy or consulate. Both steps can run in parallel with a UAE visa extension if needed.

Lost Passport in Dubai on Visitor Visa (2026): What to Do

Do these three things in order: (1) Report to Dubai Police immediately and get the lost passport certificate : available online in 24 hours. (2) Contact your embassy or consulate in the UAE to apply for a replacement passport or emergency travel document. (3) If your UAE visa is close to expiry while you wait, extend your visitor visa before it runs out. Full steps and official embassy contacts by nationality below.

Step 1: Report to Dubai Police

Report the loss immediately. This protects you if your passport is misused and produces the certificate your embassy requires before it will issue any travel document.

  1. Go to dubaipolice.gov.ae, the Dubai Police app, or the nearest Smart Police Station
  2. Select Lost Items, then category Documents, sub-category Passport
  3. Enter your passport number, name, nationality, expiry date and date of birth. Upload a copy of your passport if you have one.
  4. Select the location and date the passport was lost. Submit and pay the fee by card.
  5. You receive the lost passport certificate by email within 24 hours. Save it and print a copy.

Dubai Police lost passport certificate fees

  1. Lost passport certificate AED 50
  2. Knowledge and innovation fee AED 20
  3. Total (online) AED 70
  4. In person at Smart Police Station AED 100

If you do not have a copy of your passport, contact your embassy first : they can confirm your identity and provide a reference number before the police report is filed. Dubai Police accepts walk-in reports at Smart Police Stations if you cannot apply online.

Step 2: For Residence Visa Holders : Government Clearance

This step applies to UAE residents only. If you are on a visitor or tourist visa, skip directly to Step 3 (your embassy).

Residence visa holders must get the police report stamped by three government departments before the final lost passport certificate in Arabic is issued: Dubai Courts, the Public Prosecution Department, and GDRFA. Once all three stamps are obtained, return the stamped report to the police station. The final Arabic certificate and lost passport certificate are then issued and taken to the embassy.

Step 3: Contact Your Embassy or Consulate

Your embassy issues either a replacement passport (full validity, takes longer) or an Emergency Travel Document (one-way travel back to your home country, faster). The right option depends on how urgently you need to travel and your embassy's process. Official contacts and requirements by nationality are below.

European Union and Schengen nationals All EU member state and Schengen area passport holders

EU and Schengen member states each have their own embassy or consulate in the UAE. All follow the same general process: Dubai Police lost passport certificate first, then contact your national embassy or consulate. Most EU member states issue an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) that covers a single return journey home.

Standard requirements across EU member states:

  • Dubai Police lost passport report (English translation required by some embassies)
  • Copy of lost passport or other proof of nationality and identity
  • Two recent passport-size photographs
  • Proof of travel (flight booking or itinerary)
  • Completed application form (available from your embassy)
  • Fee : varies by country

If your nationality is not listed above, search for your country's embassy in the UAE at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs directory or call your home country's 24-hour emergency consular line.

Step 4: Your UAE Visa While Waiting

Your UAE visitor visa continues to expire on its original date even while your passport replacement is in progress. A lost passport does not pause your visa clock.

  • If your visa will expire before your replacement document is ready, apply for a UAE visit visa extension immediately. Extensions are processed against your visa file number, not your physical passport.
  • Once your new passport or Emergency Travel Document is issued, your UAE visa must be transferred to the new document before you travel. A licensed visa agency can handle this transfer.
  • If your visa has already expired, overstay fines of AED 50 per day apply from day 1. These must be paid before you can depart. See the full UAE overstay fine payment guide.

Do not travel to the airport without a valid travel document. UAE immigration will not clear you for departure on a lost or cancelled passport. You need either your replacement passport or a valid Emergency Travel Document from your embassy in hand before you check in.
