The early tours are the gentlest on the body and the best for photographs. A sunrise tour picks up around 5:00 AM, in the dark, so you are on the dunes as first light spills over the sand. A morning tour is a more civilised 8:00 AM start and still finishes with the whole afternoon ahead of you. If a proper meal matters, a sunrise run built around breakfast is the one to pick. All three avoid the heat and the crowds.

The evening tour is the classic, and the busiest window for good reason. Pickup is in the early afternoon, around 3:00 PM, so you catch the dune bashing, the sunset and then a BBQ dinner with live shows at the camp before returning around 9:00 PM. If you would rather trade some of the camp time for a thrill, a sunset run that adds a quad bike keeps the same golden-hour timing with more adventure built in.

An overnight safari starts in the afternoon like an evening tour, but instead of driving home after dinner you stay. The camp empties, the stars come out, and you sleep in the dunes before waking to sunrise and breakfast, returning mid-morning the next day. It is the longest option at roughly 18 hours, and the only way to see the desert night properly.

If fixed pickup times do not suit you, a self-drive visit to a desert camp lets you arrive at your own hour, usually in the late afternoon for the sunset, with no early alarm and no schedule to keep. It is the most flexible way to time a desert evening around your day.

Across the day, October to April is the comfortable season, when any tour time is pleasant. From May to September the middle of the day is hot, so a sunrise or morning tour is far kinder, getting you back before the peak heat. During Ramadan, timings shift and some evening tours run later, after iftar, so it is worth checking when you book.
