1 Unclear passport scan. Place the passport bio page flat on a plain white surface. All four corners must be visible including the machine-readable zone. No blur, no shadow, no flash glare. Every detail must be legible without zooming. Check the image on your screen before sending : if you can read the passport number, expiry date and nationality clearly, it will pass.
2 Wrong photo background. The photograph must have a plain white background. Cream, off-white, grey or any patterned background will be rejected. Sunglasses, hats and partial face visibility also cause rejection. Use a recent photo (within 3 months), studio quality or equivalent, taken specifically for a visa application.
3 Name mismatch. The name on the application must match the Latin-script name on the passport exactly : including all given names, surname and their order. A single-letter difference flags the application for manual review. Copy the name character by character from the passport rather than typing it from memory.
4 Passport validity too short. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your planned UAE entry date, not from the application date. Check the expiry date before applying. If your passport expires within 6 months of travel, apply for the tourist visa only after renewing it.
5 Submitting at the wrong time. UAE immigration does not process normal applications on Saturday or Sunday. Express processing is available on Saturday. For same-day express delivery, submit complete documents before 12:00 PM UAE time (GMT+4) on a working day. Applications received after 12:00 PM on Friday carry over to Monday morning for normal processing. Factor in UAE public holidays : no processing of any type on those days.
6 Wrong visa type for your travel dates. Applying for a 30-day visa when your trip is 40 days, or a single-entry visa when you plan to exit and re-enter, requires a correction before submission. Confirm your travel dates and re-entry needs before choosing. If you need to exit and come back, a UAE multiple-entry tourist visa is the right product. If you need more than 60 days, you cannot extend a tourist visa beyond 60 days total through the extension route : plan accordingly.
Nationality-specific immigration checks. UAE immigration applies additional review for certain passport types. This is a government-level process and no agency can expedite or influence it. Express processing reduces agency-side handling time but does not change the immigration review stage. If your nationality is subject to additional checks, both express and normal timelines may be longer than the averages.
UAE public holidays. No visa processing of any type takes place on official UAE public holidays. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha can each suspend processing for 3 to 5 days. Check the UAE public holiday calendar before submitting if your travel date is close to a holiday period.
Peak season volume. December and the summer school holiday period (July to August) see significantly higher UAE visa application volumes. Normal processing can stretch to the upper end of the 2 to 4 working day window during these periods. If you are travelling in peak season, use express visa processing or apply further in advance than usual.

No grace period since October 2024. If your current UAE visa is close to expiry and you need more time inside the country, apply to extend your UAE visit visa before it expires. Once expired, the in-country extension is closed and fines of AED 50 per day accumulate from the first day after expiry.
If your travel involves exiting the UAE and re-entering : for an Oman day trip, a side visit to Saudi Arabia, or a flight connection : make sure you have either a multiple-entry visa or have arranged the airport to airport visa change process before you leave. A single-entry visa becomes permanently invalid on first exit.

No. Travel insurance is not required for a standard UAE tourist visit visa and its presence or absence does not affect processing time. Some airlines may request proof of insurance at check-in independently of the visa. Check with your airline if you are unsure.
