Driving through the mountains gives you the freedom to explore very beautiful places, take photos of breathtaking views and even find quiet but mesmerizing viewpoints. This is entirely different from shuttle buses. No strict schedules, no limited stops just you and your calm enjoyable journey.

Before you get into your journey as the first thing you should check the availability of Jais Flight. Especially  if you are planning to visit during weekends or public holidays. Its better to know your zipline time so you can plan your trip better and don’t have to wait a long time at the top.Even if you’re only planning to have a one day trip, a little planning can transform your drive into an unforgettable road trip.

Travel Time & Distance (The Breakdown)

The most popular route is via E311 (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) or E611. Because the highways are fast.  When  you arrive at Ras Al Khaimah, you can see huge mountains, very curvy roads and beautiful valleys. Also by driving from Dubai you get the chance to  stop at cafés and pretty view points along the way.

If You start  From Abu Dhabi your  Distance to travel is 300 km and it may take 3.5 to 4.5 hours.

If you want to avoid exhausting traffic in Dubai, you have to start your journey as early as possible. This road runs through different emirates, changing from flat desert highways to high mountains. Have a break for food and rest because mountain roads with sharp turns are usually exhausting.

If you start from Sharjah your distance to travel isI 130 km and it may take 2 or 2.5 hours.

Sharjah is situated close to the destination so it is very good for a one day trip. You have to experience busy urban highways before the  mountains. Leave early to check Jais Flight availability and avoid crowds on the weekend  at the zipline.

Weather in mountains can always change so, consult the updated Jebel Jais Zipline weather guide. But the early mornings in the mountains are usually  clear and calm.

Understanding Road Charges

People who are travelling from other emirates should know the road charges.

If you are a Dubai traveller,

You must pass Salik toll gates, especially near Al Mamzar or Safa. The E311 route is faster and less busy while E611 passes fewer toll gates but can be slower during busy times. Each Salik toll costs AED 4, so make sure your account has enough balance.

If you are an Abu Dhabi traveller,

The Darb toll system  automatically charges vehicles exiting the emirate. Make sure your darb accounts are active.

The RAK Advantage

Ras Al Khaimah has no toll gates so you can go without stress.
Public holidays have high traffic, so check Jebel Jais Zipline public holiday rush schedules and try to drive early in the morning. Avoid afternoons.

Fuel & Charging Logistics

Mountain driving needs careful planning if you’re driving a petrol or diesel vehicle.

Fill Up Early

There are only a few fuel stations on the mountain road. It is better to fill up at RAK city or at the base of Jebel Jais.

Fuel Consumption

Climbing 36 km of mountain roads burns very fast. Make sure to  plan for higher fuel consumption.

Electric Vehicles

Make sure your electric vehicle  is fully charged before starting your climb. It is better to carry a small emergency fuel container for hybrids or petrol vehicles.

Bring water, snacks, and a light jacket. Because the  temperature at the summit is  10°C cooler than at sea level.

Navigating the Mountain Road

The road to Jebel Jais is an engineering masterpiece but you should be careful and prepared when driving it.
