Can Indians Get a Free Visa for Dubai? Indian nationals need a visa or preapproved entry permit to visit Dubai. Neither option is free.

Can Indians Get a Free Visa for Dubai?

No. There is no free Dubai visa for Indian passport holders. All Indian nationals require either a preapproved UAE visit entry permit (paid, available to Indians residing in qualifying countries) or a prepaid UAE tourist visa applied for before travel. Both routes involve a fee.

The confusion around "free" usually comes from the preapproved UAE visit entry permit, which some sources incorrectly describe as a visa on arrival or even a free option. It is neither. It is a paid permit that must be secured before you board your flight, and it is only available to Indians who are legally residing in specific countries with the right qualifying document.

Route 1: Preapproved UAE Visit Entry Permit (Indians Living Abroad)

The UAE offers a preapproved visit entry permit to Indian nationals who are living in certain countries and hold the qualifying residency document from that country. This is not a visa on arrival. It must be obtained before travel. Airlines verify it at check-in, and you cannot obtain it at the airport after you land.

Fees

Duration Fee
14 days (single entry) USD 63
60 days (single entry) USD 141.36

Eligibility: which country you live in determines which document you need

Country where you reside Document required
Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Singapore Residency permit valid for a minimum of 6 months
EU member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden Residency permit valid for a minimum of 6 months, OR any visa issued by an EU member state valid for a minimum of 6 months

Important: the qualifying document must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from the date you intend to enter the UAE. If your US visa, UK visa or EU residency permit expires in less than 6 months from your travel date, you do not qualify for this route and must apply for a prepaid UAE tourist visa instead.

This permit covers Indians living in the countries listed above. If you hold an Indian passport and live in the UAE on a UAE residence visa, that UAE document does not qualify you for this permit. The qualifying document must be from one of the countries listed in the table above.

Route 2: Prepaid UAE Tourist Visa (Indians in India or Non-Qualifying Countries)

If you live in India or in a country not listed above, you need a prepaid UAE tourist visa applied for before your travel date. This is the standard route for most Indian travellers.

  • 30-day single entry: for short trips, one entry only
  • 60-day single entry: the most commonly booked option for Indian travellers visiting family or on holiday
  • 30-day multiple entry: for those who need to exit and re-enter the UAE within the visa validity period

Documents needed: a colour copy of your Indian passport bio page (all four corners visible, minimum 6 months validity) and a recent white background photograph. Processing takes 4 to 8 hours with express processing, or 2 to 4 working days on standard.

No grace period since October 2024. Overstay fines begin from AED 50 per day from the first day after expiry. If you need more time in the UAE, apply for a UAE tourist visa extension before the visa expires.

What This Is Not

Several websites incorrectly describe the preapproved UAE visit entry permit as a "visa on arrival" that Indian nationals collect at a Marhaba counter inside Dubai airport after landing. This is not accurate. The permit is a preapproved document issued before departure. You present it at airline check-in and at UAE immigration on arrival. If you do not have it before you board, you will not be permitted to fly.

The only way to enter Dubai without a pre-obtained document is to hold a passport that qualifies for visa-free entry : Indian passports do not qualify. Every Indian national visiting Dubai needs something approved in advance, whether it is the preapproved entry permit or a prepaid UAE tourist visa for Indian nationals.

Extending Your Stay

Whether you entered on the preapproved permit or a prepaid tourist visa, you can apply for a UAE visit visa extension from inside the UAE before your current visa or permit expires. Extensions are available in 30-day increments. There is no grace period, so apply before the expiry date.
