With everything from desert to alpine to tropical climates, the USA has no single best season, so match the month to the region.
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | April to June | Mild and pleasant across most of the country. A strong all-round window. |
| Summer | July to August | Hot, peak season for national parks and the north, busy and pricey. |
| Autumn | September to October | Comfortable, with autumn colour in the north and east. Excellent all-round. |
| Winter | November to March | Cold in the north, warm in the south, ski season in the mountains. |
Mild and comfortable across most of the country, with blossom in the east and manageable heat in the south and the desert parks. It is a strong time for cities and for the Southwest before the summer heat builds.
Peak travel season. It is ideal for the northern national parks, Yellowstone, the Rockies and Alaska, and for the coasts, but the Southwest deserts and the Deep South are very hot, and prices and crowds peak everywhere.
One of the best all-round windows. The weather is comfortable, the crowds ease after summer, and New England and the north put on spectacular autumn colour. A fine time for cities and road trips alike.
A season of extremes by region. The north and northeast are cold and snowy, which brings ski season to the Rockies and the Sierra. Meanwhile Florida, southern California and the Southwest are warm and pleasant, making the south a classic winter-sun escape.
The USA is a continent, not a single destination. New York, Yellowstone, Florida and California peak at different times, so pick your region first, then the month that suits it.
Flights from Dubai to the US east coast take around fourteen hours, and longer to the west. Given the distance and the size of the country, focus on one or two regions per trip. Apply for your visa well ahead, as the process can take time.

April to June and September to October offer the most comfortable weather across most of the country. Beyond that, the best month depends on the specific region you are visiting.
Summer, July and August, for the northern parks such as Yellowstone and Glacier. Spring and autumn suit the Southwest parks, where summer is extremely hot.
Late September to October in New England and the northern states, when the foliage is at its most spectacular.
November to March, in Florida, southern California and the Southwest, where the weather stays warm while the north is cold.
Given the distances, focus on one or two regions. Around two weeks lets you explore a region in depth without rushing.
