Russia's weather swings hard between seasons, so summer and winter offer two very different trips.
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Summer | June to August | Warm, long days, the White Nights. The best and busiest time. |
| Shoulder | May, September | Mild, fewer crowds, pleasant sightseeing. |
| Winter | November to March | Very cold, snowy, festive and atmospheric, lowest prices. |
The prime window. Moscow and St Petersburg are warm and green, the days are long, and St Petersburg's White Nights, when it barely gets dark, are a highlight in June and early July. This is peak season, so book ahead.
Mild, settled weather with thinner crowds. May brings spring colour and September the start of autumn, both comfortable for walking the cities and visiting the palaces and museums without the summer rush.
Deep cold, often well below freezing, with snow blanketing the cities. It is dark and demanding, but Moscow and St Petersburg under snow are genuinely beautiful, and the festive season, ballet and lower prices are a real draw for those who pack properly.
Russian winters are far colder than anything in the UAE. If you travel between November and March, bring proper thermal layers, a heavy coat and good boots, and plan plenty of indoor time.
Flights from Dubai to Moscow take around five and a half hours. Most trips pair Moscow with St Petersburg, linked by a fast train. Settle your visa route early, as Russia requires a visa for most travellers.

It is cold and dark, but Moscow and St Petersburg under snow are beautiful, and the festive season, ballet and lower prices appeal to many. Pack serious winter clothing.
