Brazil is vast, so the best time depends on whether you want the coast, the Amazon or the falls.
| Season | Months | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Summer | December to March | Hot, lively and the peak beach season. Carnival falls here. |
| Shoulder | April to June, September to November | Warm, pleasant and quieter, good value. |
| Winter | June to August | Milder and drier in the south, the dry season in the Amazon. |
Peak season on the coast, with Rio, the beaches and the islands at their liveliest. It is hot and humid, and Carnival, usually in February or early March, is the headline event, so book far ahead for it.
Warm, settled weather with thinner crowds and better prices. A strong all-round time to combine Rio with other regions without the summer intensity.
The south is milder and drier, pleasant for the cities. In the Amazon this is the drier season, better for jungle trails and wildlife, while the Iguazu Falls are impressive year-round.
CARNIVAL BOOKS OUT EARLY
