Calculation of Overstay Fine

For you to you know exactly how much fine you should pay, you need to first know how to calculate the fine.  The amount you pay depends on the days that you have overstayed in the UAE after your visa expiry date.

The UAE government removed the 10 days’ grace period for repaid visa holders which was granted after the visa expires. This means that fines start accumulating immediately the visa expires.

The ICP UAE has recently standardized the overstaying fines in the UAE to AED 50 per day. To know the amount of fine you are required to pay, calculate the number of days you have stayed in the country since the date your visa expired, and then multiply those days by 50.

For example, if you have overstayed in the UAE by 10 days, then your total fine will be 500 AED (10 x 50 =500).

Option 2: I want to stay in residence

If you are in the UAE on a residence visa or employment visa   and it expires or gets cancelled, you are granted a grace period of 30 days. This grace period gives you time to decide whether to change the status of your visa and get another residence visa or leave the country.

You will not be charged any overstaying fines for staying in the country during these 30 days, but after that, you will start accumulating fines.

This is the new amount after the government standardized all the overstaying visa fines.  If you stay for 45 days after your resident visa is expired or cancelled, the calculation for visa fine will be as follows:

45 days – 30 days (Grace Period) = 15 days

Therefore, fine will be 15 days’ x 50 AED = 750 AED

Overstaying fine = 5 days’ x 50 AED which totals to 250 AED

                          PLUS

Exit Pass of 250 to 300 AED

How to Check Overstay Visit Visa Fine in UAE?

Before you check the overstay fee for different visas, you need to first know about the grace period. The UAE immigration has recently abolished the 10 days’ grace period that was issued to visit visa holders.

Visitors with a UAE visit visa should exit the country immediately their visa expires, or extend or renew their visas if they want to continue staying in the UAE. Failure to do so will attract visa fines and other consequences like absconding.

Those who have a UAE residence visa still enjoy the 30 days’ grace period after visa expiry.

Residents of the UAE and those with a visit visa can verify their overstay fine status online. You only need to use your Emirates ID to check the status online.

Visit the ICA official website and check the amount of overstaying visa fine you have accumulated.

How to Reduce Visit Visa Fine in UAE?

  • The UAE government allows visitors to apply to change their visa status while still physically present in the country. You however need to provide evidence that you meet the new visa requirements and pay the visa fees for you to be allowed to change visa status without exiting the country.
  • You need to submit the request for visa change well in advance before your current visa expires to prevent the risk of attracting overstaying fines.
  • Plan your return trip in advance. This strategy saves you money because you will be up to date with the days you have to stay in the country and leave before your visa expires. You can use a visa day calculator to get an accurate tally of the days you have stayed in the country.
  • Use the Days Calculator Days between Two Dates and make sure you tick the box with ‘include end date in calculation’ before you submit. The date you arrived in the country will also be counted by the immigration so you should add one day to the total days you get.
  • Use the file validity checking methods given by the UAE immigration system to validate the day that is supposed to be your last in the UAE when you enter the country.
  • Ask the company that issued you with a visa to show you the screenshots from the immigration system confirming the date of your departure from the UAE.
  • Learn about the different types of UAE visas and the one that you have applied for and be aware if you get any grace period or if you have to plan your exit before the visa expires.
  • Avoid traveling on the final day of your grace period or the last date of your visa expiry if the type of visa you have doesn’t have a grace period. This is because any flight delays, or inconveniences at the airport could force you to extend tour stay in the UAE and in turn result to overstaying visa penalties.
  • When travelling from anywhere always make sure to leave the country at least two days before your visa expires or the end of your grace period.
